Education Mission Statement

The mission of the Kickapoo Education Department is to assist tribal members in furthering their education by providing financial assistance for tuition, books, and fees so that they may attend technical schools, colleges or universities which will allow them to become self-sufficient and improve their economic status.

Education Programs

 

Adult Education

The Kickapoo Adult Education Program provides only registration costs/fees for the following types of services:

  1. GED 
  2. Workshops 
  3. Conferences 
  4. Seminars
  5. On-Line Class 
  6. Short term training session (not to exceeding 7 consecutive days)

*Not to exceed $1,200 per tribal member, per 12 month period.


Priority

Priority will be granted to those individual tribal members who are working toward obtaining a G.E.D. Certificate. Applicants must be an enrolled member of the Kickapoo Tribe and live on or within the 15 mile radius of the Kickapoo Reservation or service area.

Scholarships Program

Members of the Kickapoo Tribe who are seeking higher education by attending Junior College, Community College or a University to earn various types of under-graduate college credits and degrees. Distance learning and on-line courses toward A.A. and. B.A. degrees are included. Application deadlines are July 1 for the Fall Semester and November 1 for the Spring Semester. No summer school funding is available at this time.


Priority

Returning full-time students (Minimum of 12 credit hours.) who have met the requirements of the grant and are maintaining a GPA of at least 2.0. Entering students who are considered Freshmen and other undergraduate students who have never received a grant. Program is open to all enrolled members of the Kickapoo Tribe in Kansas.


Process

  1. Letter requesting assistance
  2. Copy of CDIB
  3. Copy of acceptance for admission
  4. Complete Pell Grant
  5. Financial needs analysis completed by the financial aid officer
  6. Complete high school transcripts or complete college transcripts
  7. Freshman are required to submit SAT or ACT scores
  8. Juniors statues degree evaluation (60 credit hours or more)


Adult Vocational Education

Enrolled members of the Kickapoo Tribe who wish to attend public or private vocational training institutions with a 2-year limitation on training areas, except registered nursing which is not to exceed 36 months.


Priority

Applicants under the age of 21 who have not previously received Adult Vocational assistance (If age 17, must be a high school graduate.), and applicants who have never received Adult Vocational assistance. Applicants must show proof of enrollment and live on or within a 15 mile radius of the Kickapoo Reservation or service area.

  3. Copy of acceptance for admission
  4. Transcripts, copy of diploma or verification of GED
  5. Verification for all non-bureau aid, including Pell Grants
  6. Financial needs analysis completed by the financial aid officer

*Students must maintain required GPA of 2.0. A copy of grades must be provided before any funds will be released for the next semester. Individual courses may only be repeated once.
