Mission Statement:

“To provide emergency services designed to protect the lives and property of the community from the adverse effects of fire, sudden medical emergencies or exposure to dangerous conditions created either by man or nature through quality education and training with support from our Tribal Council.”

“To provide the most efficient service for our community, we will act and perform in a safe, courteous and professional manner. As members of the fire service, we have chosen to protect the lives and property of the citizens of our community. Our members have chosen to be part of a team that takes pride in representing the Kickapoo Tribal Fire Department. We will strive to create a strong bond with the community by involving them in fire education, prevention and protection.”

Walk-ins accepted from 8:00 A.M. – 8:30 A.M. and 1:00 P.M. – 1:30 P.M. 
(Subject to change if workload is extreme.)
Appointments are strongly recommended.

*Note- Make it known when you check in if you are having chest pains, serious cuts with blood loss, breathing difficulties or anything that needs immediate attention.

Dental Clinic

Dental services are by appointment. 
Call (785) 486-2154 for an appointment.
Walk-ins will be seen if time permits. If there is not enough time for you to be seen, an appointment will be made for you. If you miss your appointment and do not call in 24 hours in advance, you will be placed at the end of the list which is three (3) to four (4) months. Due to the short time the Dentist is available, there is a tremendous backlog. If you have an emergency situation, you will need to make other arrangements.

Community Health Representative Program

Our Community Health Representatives are located at the Kickapoo Nation Health Center. The Community Health Representative Program was designed to make improvements in the quality of the healthcare services for our native people.

CHR

Community Health Representatives transport clients for medical purposes only. At least 24 hours advanced notice should be given to schedule in your appointment for transport. The CHR service is only to be used when no other alternative transportation is available to you.

Patient Requirements 

To quality for Health and Dental services, you MUST have updated clinic files containing copies of:
1. Tribal Enrollment Card 
2. Social Security Card
3. Birth Certificate for children 18 years and under.
4. Current Driver’s License

Covered Referrals Requirements

For a “Covered” REFERRAL, you must have Proof of Residency verifying you have lived in the service area the last 180 days. Service area includes Kansas Kickapoo Tribal members in Jackson and Brown County, KS, Prairie Band Potawatomi Tribal members residing in Brown County, KS and non-indigenous tribal members residing on or near the Kickapoo Tribal Reservation in Kansas.

And if there is a reasonable expectation that you would qualify for HealthWave, Medicaid/Medicare, you MUST apply. A denial letter from KHPA (Kansas Health Policy Authority) is required for Contract Health Support services. Must meet the Medical Priority Level approved by the Contract Health guidelines and be an active patient of the Health Center. 

Services depend on the availability of funds for the Contract Health Services Program. Contract Health Services Program is the payer of last resort and payments will not be made until all other financial resources have been utilized.

Non-Covered Referrals

A “Non-covered” REFERRAL is a referral which is provided by the Kickapoo Nation Health Clinic medical personnel and is an important part of the treatment plan; however, Contract Health Services will not financially cover the expense for the referral because it does not meet all the eligibility criteria.
